Never a dull bite

We’ve been helping Kiwis dial up the taste since 1969. Because we believe every bite, sip, morsel and moment shared, matters. It’s not complicated, always tasty and never dull.

Barker's of Geraldine

Tasty, always.

Barker’s has been filling Kiwi pantries for over 55 years. Still made on the original family farm in Geraldine, New Zealand. You might know us for our jam. Or for all the other delicious, handy ways we help you dial up maximum flavour at every meal.

We pack the punch, the zing and the zest into jars, bottles and pouches for you. From meal sauces and marinades to chutneys, sauces, spreads and syrups; it’s all about turning just another Tuesday night dinner or a weekday lunch into something worth remembering.

Need a platter or planning a picnic or barbecue? Craving a curry or shaking up your cocktail game? Whatever the moment, you bring the hunger, we’ll bring the flavour.

Barker's of Geraldine

Never dull since 1969.

Big flavours, big hearts and big stories; it’s all baked into the Barker’s history. From farming sheep and making wine, to orchards and cottage kitchens; Barker’s of Geraldine has had quite a journey. Yet we’re still right here on our original family farm.

In 1969, South Canterbury farmers Anthony and Gillian Barker discovered they were also pretty good at making fruit wine. Friends and neighbours helped pick the berries. The cellar door was always open. And our team became extended whānau, sharing meals and yarns around the kitchen table.

We never shy from the chance to try something new. So when a fire in 1976 devastated the Barker’s business (and the wine), our hive of industry was reborn with Kiwi know-how, and three generations of hard mahi. Bold ideas came to fruition like using locally grown Vitamin C-rich blackcurrants long before anyone else did.

And sheer inventiveness, like patenting the iconic Kent wood burning stove that Anthony had designed out of an old oil drum, soon seen in living rooms the length of Aotearoa New Zealand.

More seats at the table

In the 80s, Michael Barker returned to the family farm as general manager, starting a new chapter for Barker’s. A new factory was built, and we started creating fruit fillings for bakeries. This was the beginning of our Foodservice brand, Barker’s Professional.

By the 90s, we were taking on imported specialty condiments, producing NZ-made jams, chutneys, sauces and syrups. Anthony Barker Preserves launched and grew into the Barker’s of Geraldine we all love today.

In 2015, the Andros family – of Bonne Maman fame – brought their French love of food making to our corner of the world. With our shared passion for quality ingredients, we were a great match.

Today, Barker’s products are still made by us, from scratch, with heaps of our Geraldine generosity to make sure every plate and every moment, is never dull, always tasty.

For people, plants and planet

Looking after each other and the land that grows our kai is baked into what we do. Together with our growers and suppliers, we’re working to protect and enhance biodiversity through regenerative farming practices, while focusing on building responsible and resilient supply chains for the future. We’re also on a journey to reduce food, water and material waste, improve the way we use resources and find opportunities to reuse and repurpose wherever possible to lessen our environmental footprint.

Barker’s is made by South Island Kiwis (the people, not the birds). We're investing in the future of our local community by expanding our Geraldine site and sourcing fresh produce locally wherever possible. We love to give back, from sports clubs to fundraisers for the local community who've supported us.
